RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it.

Why RSS? Benefits and Reasons for using RSS
RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually. You ensure your privacy, by not needing to join each site's email newsletter. The number of sites offering RSS feeds is growing rapidly and includes big names like Yahoo News.
What do I need to do to read an RSS Feed? RSS Feed Readers and News Aggregators
Feed Reader or News Aggregator software allow you to grab the RSS feeds from various sites and display them for you to read and use.
A variety of RSS Readers are available for different platforms. Some popular feed readers include Amphetadesk (Windows, Linux, Mac),FeedReader (Windows), and NewsGator (Windows - integrates with Outlook). There are also a number of web-based feed readers available. My Yahoo, Bloglines, and Google Reader are popular web-based feed readers.

Once you have your Feed Reader, it is a matter of finding sites that syndicate content and adding their RSS feed to the list of feeds your Feed Reader checks. Many sites display a small icon with the acronyms RSS, XML, or RDF to let you know a feed is available.
PageRank is a link analysis algorithm, named after Larry Page, used by the Google Internet search engine that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of "measuring" its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references.

Page Rank - Also known as Google Juice, is the rank that Google assigns individual web pages within your site.  Page Rank or PR is based on logarithmic 0 -10 scale which considers the content and transparency of your site according to Google's search bots as well as the number and quality of inbound and outbound links to the site.

Robots.txt is a text (not html) file you put on your site to tell search robots which pages you would like them not to visit. Robots.txt is by no means mandatory for search engines but generally search engines obey what they are asked not to do. It is important to clarify that robots.txt is not a way from preventing search engines from crawling your site (i.e. it is not a firewall, or a kind of password protection) and the fact that you put a robots.txt file is something like putting a note “Please, do not enter” on an unlocked door – e.g. you cannot prevent thieves from coming in but the good guys will not open to door and enter. That is why we say that if you have really sen sitive data, it is too naĂŻve to rely on robots.txt to protect it from being indexed and displayed in search results.

The location of robots.txt is very important. It must be in the main directory because otherwise user agents (search engines) will not be able to find it – they do not search the whole site for a file named robots.txt. Instead, they look first in the main directory and if they don't find it there, they simply assume that this site does not have a robots.txt file and therefore they index everything they find along the way. So, if you don't put robots.txt in the right place, do not be surprised that search engines index your whole site.

Here's the length of time it currently takes to get listed at each of the major search engines once you have submitted your web page.

SEO is the acronym for Search Engine Optimization .This is a series of simple processes for making your website more search engine friendly with some tweaks of code and content.Selelcting a proper domain name can prove to be a key factor in terms of the position of the website in the search engine. It will also contribute a lot to the overall traffic to the website.

The 3 major factors are as follows:

    1. Domain names should be as short as possible: Short domain names are always easier to remember rather than long domain names which people may even tend to spell it wrong.
    2. Domain name most preferred is a “.com”: This is nothing to do with the search engine optimization and traffic to the website but the common fact that people tend to add a .com automatically after the domain name.
    3. Domain name should contain keywords: According to the major search engines keywords in a domain name do have a very major impact in increasing traffic to your website.

    1. Register your domain.
    2. Rent some server space.

    1. Registering your domain

There are many companies out there that allow you to register the domain name for your website. Prices vary, as does the quality of service, but at the end of the day, they all handle the details of getting your domain name listed in the giant address book I spoke about earlier.
These days, you will find many of the names you may be interested in registering are already taken. As I mentioned above, domain names have to be unique and many have been slurped up.

    2. Renting server space to 'host' your website

When renting space on a server so that it can serve your website on the World Wide Web, it is often called 'hosting'. Companies that provide this service are often called 'host' or hosting companies.
After you registered your domain, all you need to do it contact a hosting company and tell them you want to host you website and that you have a proper domain name. They will guide you through the process and you should be live on the web in no time!
